Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure wherein subcutaneous fat is sucked out from parts of the body where there is excess deposition by using a cannula and suction apparatus.
It does not reduce weight and should not be used for weight loss. It only removes undesirable fat deposits from specific body areas. It is a means of contouring the body shape.
The following areas are most commonly treated with liposuction:
Hips and buttocks
Abdomen and waist
Cheeks, chin and neck
Calves and ankles
1.Bruising especially in patients on blood thinner medications
2.Inflammation ie swelling
3. Infections more common in diabetic patients. May require surgical drainage
5.Contour irregularities due to reduced flexibility of skin or improper technique
6.Numbness is usually temporary
7.Internal organ punctures is very rare
